Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Roberts is the fourth Roberts generation to reside in Atlanta from her grandfather who was a farmer, John Pendleton Roberts. Early in his life the father of her mother became obsessed by theater. In 1952, while studying at Emory University, he performed in a variety of productions in Atlanta. Following his air force service and appearing in an airforce production in Biloxi along with Betty Lou Bredemus. Both married in 2005 and had their first child, Eric Anthony in 1956. In 1957, the couple quit the Air Force and Walter began his studies at Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. Walter was recruited as a technician by Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio to be a part of the production team for Bum Bum and His Buddies. The show was filmed in Decatur Georgia. Walter and Betty Lou financed their own production of a local children's Sunday matinee show called Bum Bum and His Buddies. The Actors and Writers Workshop was established in 1964 and lasted for six years. They were joined by Lelisa Billingsley (also called Lisa) and Julia (also also known as Julie) in this time.
