Madekwe is the daughter of an ethnically diverse family in South London in England. She has a mother who is English while her father is Nigerian. She grew up in the south of a London council estate and attended The Brit School at age 14. She pursued acting studies in The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London. As a student at the academy, she appeared in numerous stage productions, such as King Henry V as Princess Katherine and Wuthering Heights as Catherine Earnshaw.
Madekwe's acting journey began with Storm Damage. In the years since, she's made guest appearances on Teachers, Doctors, Casualty as well as Drop Dead Gorgeous. Madekwe's debut film came from that of the Woody Allen 2007 film Cassandra's Dream. She starred alongside Colin Farrell & Ewan MacGregor. Madekwe's US debut was in 2009 with the thriller The Beautiful Life. The show aired just two episodes before being removed from The CW. Ashley Leggat, an actress nominated twice for a Gemini Award, hails from the large Hamilton family. Her parents Roy and Patty and the four brothers of her, Brett, Todd, and Bram, were all present. Ashley grew in arenas or baseball fields because her four athletic brothers all played hockey and baseball and both in the summer and winter. Ashley was never a walker, she was a dancer, and when she was two and a half she began Baby Ballet -and she fell in love. Ashley was hooked on dance since that time. Ashley was a dancer who competed throughout the various divisions up until her graduation from high school. She was a competitor in ballet, jazz, tap and pointe, as well as Acrobatics.
