Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for over 20 years. She's also an accomplished public speaker. She founded Feminist Frequency which hosts videos and commentary analyzing portrayals of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. Feminist Frequency investigates how women are represented in the pop culture. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes about women and how they are portrayed in popular media. Furthermore, she works to raise awareness about online harassment targeted at women and those who are marginalized. Holding a master's degree in the field of political and social thinking at York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public speaker and she has delivered speech at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. From an early age, Sarkeesian was fascinated by the issue of gender identity as well as feminist ideas. As a student, in 2009 she started her Feminist Frequency website. It was a girl who wanted to create the series of videos on the internet which would explore gender representations in video games. However, she became the target of cyber-bullying. However, the attacks did not dissuade her. It only strengthened her as a journalist who is feminist. Numerous awards have been awarded to her for all of the contribution she has made. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her role as a critic of the media, and she founded Feminist Frequency. The nonprofit explores the portrayals of women in popular culture of today.
