His distinctive vocals and the blending of hip-hop and R&B is what made him a pioneer in soul-trap. The track from 2019 "Heart on Ice" became viral through YouTube, TikTok, and reached number 25 on the Hot 100 chart on Billboard. [7] Wave's debut album, Ghetto Gospel (2019) was a top 10 album on the US Billboard 200. "8" The album that followed"Prayer 4 Love (2020), placed at the top of the Billboard 200.[9] It also featured the hit "Rags2Riches", that reached the top spot at 12 on the Hot 100. His third album, SoulFly (2021), was his debut album at the top of the charts at number one. It was his first album to chart. Wave's career started in 2016 when he released his mixtape Hunger Games Vol. 1. Wave released many mixtapes before signing with Alamo Records. On the 14th of June the 14th of June, 2019, he dropped his mixtape PTSD, which included the song "Heart on Ice". The track became a huge popular via YouTube as well as TikTok. It ranked at number 25 on Billboard's Hot 100. Wave's debut album Ghetto Gospel was released on November 1, 2019. It reached number 10 in the US Billboard 200. On April 3, 2020, Rod Wave released his second album, "Pray 4 Love". It was released at the 2nd spot in the Billboard 200. A deluxe edition followed on August 7. The majority of songs from the album charted on the Billboard Hot 100. "S" (featuring ATR son Son) was ranked 12 on the Hot 100. It became the top-charting track of the album. Wave was selected for XXL's 2020 Freshman Class on the 11th of August the 11th of August, 2020. Wave told XXL's 2020 Freshman Class in July 2020 that he was currently working on his third album. The album was originally scheduled to be released on August 27, 2020. Two years later, he revealed the tracklist for his album SoulFly in an interview held on March 6th, 2021. [16][17] The album also includes two songs "Street Runner" and "Tombstone", his highest-charting track, which reached number 11 on the Hot 100. [18][19] Wave's song "Nirvana" that was released late 2021, caused controversy. Many thought the song was a suicide note, but Wave insists that this was not the case. [20]
